Well, we’ve been dreading it, but exams are finally here. You’re suddenly a mess in a coffee-induced state of anxiety that will last till the end of January. So here are 14 exam struggles we all go through starting January 14th (btw that’s when exams start if you’re still that far behind).
1. Not running out of money
You already don’t have much money, cos student life, but there are only so many coffees you can buy with your limited budget.
2. Deciding whether to study at the Library or Common Room
It really depends on your personality and the environment you like to study in, but you never know which to choose cos you know yourself about as much as the subjects you haven’t started studying for.
3. Finding a table at the library
Every table’s taken, and if there’s an empty one, someone’s left a jacket on the chair to reserve it for a friend.
4. Helping your friends study when you have no idea what’s going on
They’re reaching out for your help…you can’t just say no.
5. Going to lectures during study week
Every lecturer decides to give a lecture during the one fictitious lecture-free week which is meant for you to study. Should I stay or should I go?
6. Trying to cram a whole semester’s work into a couple of hours
Being lazy has its consequences. Enjoying Christmas and New Year is not a valid excuse.
7. Finishing assignments
Deadlines always coincide with exams, so you’re caught between failing an exam and missing a due date.
8. Deciding what not to study
Not everything’s going to be on the exam, so you try to guess what’s going to be left out and not study it. And yes, probably it will end up being on the exam.
9. Eating at the library
Only water’s allowed in there, but you have to find a way to smuggle coffee, energy drinks and snacks. Tip: wear a baggy jacket.
10. Reading a paragraph over and over and still not understanding it
Sometimes you end up wondering if you’re just plain stupid.
11. Wondering if it would be better to just give up
You might fail this unit, or the course. Yep, I’ll become a stripper.
12. Multiple choice will be the death of you
If your exam is multiple choice, it’ll make you doubt every answer you give and everything you’ve ever learnt.
13. The 5 minute reading time torture
You spend those 5 minutes wanting to start writing, cos you know you’ll never be able to finish the paper in time.
14. Sacrificing sleep
You stay up till your brain turns to mush, and you get up so early that you don’t even realise you slept at all.
