SDM has officially launched their new campaign for the upcoming KSU elections, ‘Li Jixraq Lilek’, to follow their ‘Bil-Pass li Jmiss’ term of 2017/2018. In their Press Release they have stated that the last year saw the introduction of a number of initiatives that benefited the student body as a whole. In his speech, SDM President Neil Smart Costantino mentioned the Night Time Study Area, Extended Library Hours and a collective €60,000 investment in various funds as some examples.
Their team, led by current KSU Secretary General, Carla Galea, is a mix of old and new blood. She will be joined by Matthew John Dougall, Karin Cassar, Naomi Attard, Luke Abela, William Farrugia, Clint Vassallo, Chris Aquilina, Celine, Joseph Farrugia, and Eman Haber. A quick browse through the list sees member of organisations ranging from ASCS to SDM’s own ranks.
Costantino said of the new team that “it is useless to speak in slogans using bombastic words without having a team formed of people who have already been there, know what works and what doesn’t, people with new ideas; and, last but not least, with an organisation like SDM behind them who has always been on the forefront of all things that have to do with the University.”
Future KSU President hopeful Carla Galea said that the slogan was not thought of hastily as it means that SDM have listened to students and knows their interests ensuring a holistic manifesto in order to address the issues of all students. We can expect electoral promises including the issues of mobility on campus, various methods of transportation, internal restructuring of KSU to retain relevance, as well as an increased effort for KSU to be closer to the students.
