4th year Bachelor of Law (Honours) student Lara Attard has been elected to sit on Senate for a two-year term; while 4th year Bachelor of Law (Honours) student Carla Galea and Masters in Advocacy student Nigel Micallef have been elected to sit on Council, also for a two-year term.
The election was held last Thursday and the results announced earlier today seeing Ms Attard winning with 877 votes out of 1,572 votes cast. Ms Galea garnered a total of 818 votes out of 1,591 cast for an Undergraduate Student Representative position, while Mr Micallef got 697 out of 1,553 for the Postgraduate position.
The Council is considered the supreme governing body of the University responsible for general administration; it is also responsible for appointing new staff members to various academic posts. Meanwhile the Senate is responsible for academic matters, primarily focusing on regulating studies, research, documentation and examinations; as well as establishing entry regulations.
