Yesterday Madliena Lodge was packed to its full capacity with excited Relikc fans ready to listen to the local band’s very first album “The Code of Antics”. Tickets were completely sold out online, however more tickets had to be sold at the door due to an overwhelming turnout from the public.
In anticipation to Relikc’s performance, local upcoming band Lara and the Juke Boys as well as other musicians, including Insite’s own Mathias Mallia (who literally broke the stage with those guitar skills) were invited to play and entertain the crowd on the big night.
As the opening act for the night, Lara and the Juke Boys, who played before Relikc, set the audience into quite the mood. The band which took pride in giving the audience what they wanted did an amazing job. The crowd was extremely receptive, singing and dancing to the all time favourites played by the band.
Relikc then took the stage and played songs from their new album together with covers of popular tunes we all know and love. However the highlight of the night still remains the funky tunes of the launched album itself The Code of Antics.
Strut (Papa’s Got The Cash), the song launched by the band a couple of weeks ago was a definite favourite. It’s one of those songs that makes you want to sing and dance to it the moment you hear it, as did the audience.
The band Relikc was formed ten years ago, when the musicians met at Saint Aloysius. Keith Zammit, the band’s lead singer, claimed that he was used to playing opera music in his secondary school. When he met his fellow band mates in sixth form, he was introduced to the kind of rock played by Black Sabbath. He jokingly went on to say that this is the reason why the album took so long. The band wanted to make sure that together they find a style that reflects who they are before releasing just any album.
Keith also said that although their style has changed completely throughout the years, they have always followed the famous American band Red Hot Chilli Peppers. In fact, in honour of this they played a cover of the song Californication, which they had never played before.
Good vibes, high spirits and the feeling of support from the audience filled the air in Madliena Lodge throughout the evening. The band repeatedly interacted with the audience and thanked them for their presence, by which they where humbled.
Needless to say, it was definitely a great evening to all those who attended. Insite would like to Congratulate Relikc for such a successful launch. We wish you all the best for your promising future.
