V is for Valentine

Valentine’s Day is with us at last and you want to set the mood. Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or straight to the point, here is a brief inspirational music list for Valentine’s Day which you can really sink your teeth into. Who says that naughty and nice are reserved only for Christmas? Mind you I’ll be naming the nice ones, it’s up to you to choose the naughty songs.

Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris – “We Found Love”

One of Rihanna’s most popular songs is one that gets across the theme of love and also makes you want to dance at the same time. Calvin Harris wrote and produced the track, which was a club anthem back in 2011.

Shine a light through an open door Love and life I will divide Turn away ‘cause I need you more Feel the heartbeat in my mind

Howie Day – “Collide”

This was a 2004 hit, Howie Day sings about the ups and downs that happen in relationships, but in the end things have a way of working themselves out. This love song has made it into many films and TV shows over the years including “Scrubs,” “Smallville,” “Lost,” “Dawson’s Creek” and “Bones.”

Lyrics sneak peek:

Even the best fall down sometimes Even the wrong words seem to rhyme Out of the doubt that fills my mind I somehow find You and I collide

Barry White – “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything”

Barry White made a living off writing great love songs and “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything” was one of his most popular tracks. This funky song from the 70’s features the R&B singer declaring his love for someone who means the world to him.

My first, my last, my everything And the answer to all my dreams You’re my sun, my moon, my guiding star My kind of wonderful, that’s what you are

Kings of Leon – “Use Somebody”

Tell your loved one that you can “Use Somebody” like them on Tuesday 14th. This powerful love song by Kings of Leon helped launch the band in the U.S. The song went on to take home three Grammy awards in 2010 for Record of the Year, Best Rock Song and the Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Off in the night, while you live it up, I’m off to sleep Waging wars to shape the poet and the beat I hope it’s gonna make you notice I hope it’s gonna make you notice

Foo Fighters – “Everlong”

Who would have thought that one of the biggest rock bands around would write a love song to be featured in hundreds of weddings? “Everlong” is still one of the Foo Fighters’ biggest songs with a catchy chorus and powerful ending, perfect for expressing your love for your significant other.

Breathe out, so I can breathe you in Hold you in And now I know you’ve always been And out of your head, out of my head I sang

The Beatles – “Eight Days A Week”

The Beatles were a band that had no problem writing and expressing themselves about the ideas of love. In fact, if you wanted to, you can probably make an entire Valentine’s Day playlist based off just their songs. For this list, “Eight Days A Week” makes the cut, which features John Lennon adding another day to the week to express how much he loves someone.

Lyrics sneak peek: Ooh I need your love, babe Guess you know it’s true Hope you need my love babe Just like I need you

The Travellers – “Dak li Int”

To top it all off, a song sang in Maltese by the Gozitan band The Travellers. Surely one of my favourites, having both significant lyrics and a brilliant melody.

Fil-ħin nirtogħod, urini dak li jien, jien fik inħobb, U dan l-iskiet, urini biss dak li int.
